Dr. Patricia Quilendrino is a retina specialist dedicated to providing expert, compassionate care for patients with retina conditions. Practicing since 2011, she brings extensive experience in retina care and is part of the specialist team at Asian Eye Institute.

What happens during a retina examination?
Dilating eye drops will be instilled to enlarge your pupil. Once the medicine has taken effect after 20-30 minutes, the ophthalmologist will examine your retina. Depending on what they see, additional imaging or tests may be recommended to better understand the health of your retina and macula.
The dilating eye drops will cause blurry vision and light sensitivity which will last for about 4-6 hours. Patients may bring sunglasses to minimize the discomfort during this time. They are not allowed to drive.
I’m seeing flashes or new floaters. Should I be concerned?
Flashes and floaters usually are harmless, but a sudden increase in floaters or flashes may be a sign of a retinal tear or detachment. If you notice a sudden change, it’s best to have your eyes checked promptly.
Can I have a retinal problem even if my vision seems fine?
Yes. Some retinal conditions can develop without noticeable changes in vision, especially in their early stages. Regular eye examinations can help detect these changes early, when appropriate treatment may help protect your sight.
I have diabetes, but my vision is fine. Do I still need a retina check?
Yes. Diabetic retinopathy can develop before you notice any changes in your vision. Regular eye examinations allow your ophthalmologist to check for early changes and help protect your vision over time.
Will I need an eye injection if I have a retinal condition?
Not necessarily. Treatment depends on your specific condition. Some retinal problems are treated with injections, while others may require laser treatment, surgery, or simply careful monitoring. Your retina specialist will explain what is appropriate for you and why.
When should I see A retina Specialist
If you experience a sudden change in your vision, new flashes or many new floaters, you should have your eyes checked promptly.
